How long have you been designing? How did you start?
I have been Painting since childhood and completed a BA Hons Degree in Fine Art at Wimbledon School of Art, London after school.
Do you feel you have a distinct style? How would you describe it? How has your style changed over the years? Yes, I have built up a distinctive style over the past 5 years or so, I have gone through some illustrative stages designing for greeting cards companies before that, but since then been concentrating on my real love of colour and Painting Landscapes and Still Life
Is there any artistic talent in your family? Yes, both my parents also attended Camberwell School of Art, and are Artists, my Father spent most of his working life as a Freelance Designer in Advertising.
When you’re not creating beautiful designs, what do you enjoy doing? We recently bought an 1800’s house on the Forest so we spend our spare time updating it and interior designing the rooms.
What inspires you in everyday life? To get up in beautiful surroundings which change daily and through the different seasons, watching the animals including the deer, cows and sheep on the forest, there is always something new to see everyday which I then try to incorporate into my artwork.
Who do you aim your designs at? What sort of person do you think will love your products? I try to keep my Art open and appealing to everyone, I’m a colourist so people who love colour will hopefully connect with my paintings.
What is your favourite piece in your collection? My favourite painting is Harvest Moon which has also been produced as a Greeting card by Green Pebble cards titled ‘Golden View’. I also love the palettes in my winter paintings such as Winter Horse and Snowfall.
Talk us through your thought/creation process. My work is very spontaneous so I get an idea in my head and usually go straight to canvas working to my own standard method and sequence to build the layers and colours in the painting
Which artist/designer is most influential to your work? The major influences on my work are my parents, Monet, Matisse, Patrick Heron, Howard Hodgkin,
What’s your favourite brain food for creating work? Haha, funnily at Art college it was sausage, chips and beans! Today, I’m a little more healthy, I like to start my day while I work with a latte and lunch typically would be scrambled egg on toast and I love Rocket lettuce I could eat bags of it!
Why have you put your designs on the products you’ve chosen? I want to reach as many people as possible with my designs so I have added a lot of interior design type products you can use to add to your home or workplace to add some originality and colour.
What are your plans for 2018? My plans for 2018 are to continue painting and produce new products with particular focus on fabrics and interior design. We are also working on plans for a new studio.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, when you were just getting started what would it be? To make the most of every opportunity that comes your way, and set yourself achievable but ambitious goals to motivate you. I have been fortunate to achieve many of the goals I have set myself along the way, such as showing in galleries, designing for greeting card companies, and building a business with a growing customer base.I am very grateful for all the opportunities I have been given and never take these for granted.
